In English, Year 5 are going to be writing a balanced argument about the effect that screen use has on children and whether or not it makes them lazy.

At the beginning of the week, the children looked at an example of a balanced argument and identified the different features.

Today, they participated in a debate in small groups with each pupil taking on a character role. Some of the characters were for and some were against.

Each group had a chair, who ensured that every person got a chance to speak and give their opinion.

Each group worked really well and I was impressed with the discussion that was had and the evidence and opinions that the pupils gave in addition to the notes that were on the character card.

Over the next couple of weeks, we will work together to create a balanced argument linked to the question of screen time and then pupils will each complete an independent balanced argument which addresses a different issue.
