In English, Year 4 have been looking the the poem ‘When I heard the music…’ written by Pie Corbett.

First of all they listened to four individual pieces of music and drew images and colours that they imagined whilst listening to the music.

In the next lesson, they created extended noun sentences to describe the images that they had drawn.

Finally, they used these sentences to create their own poems.

Please let us know what you think about them!

When I heard the music –
I could see a young couple in the chaotic ocean,
They both had fish and chips in their hands,
Suddenly, out of the blue, the man fell out of the boat,
His fish and chips fell out of his hands therefore the birds started a commotion.

When I heard the music –
I imagined a peaceful Scottish wedding,
The bride calmly strolling down the aisle,
Her Dad started crying, her Mum started to smile,
I heard bagpipes playing smoothly and saw shades of orange, blue, white and red.

When I heard the music –
I saw Kevin the Carrot running away from Pascal Parsnip,
Harry the Hedgehog offered them a ride home,
One by one they jump onto Harry’s back getting spiked and poked,
I saw red, green and white.

When I heard the music –
I saw an old couple getting out of bed,
The old man turned and said “remember when I proposed?”
They sat and ate breakfast thinking of their joyful wedding day,
I could see swirls of pink, yellow, blue, brown, orange and green.

When I heard the music-
I saw an alligator creeping around in a swamp,
A poor child falling down a hole,
Peter pan flying through midnight sky,
Someone steeling a blueberry pie.

When I heard the music-
People were being married,
A bright pink glow,
A very slow funeral,
Now I half to go.

When I heard the music-
I heard banging and booming on the stone slab roof tiles,
Jiggling of Christmas bells echoes in the distance,
Perfectly wrapped Christmas presents being placed under the Christmas tree,
It’s Jolly Santa!

When I heard the music –
I’m so far away from home,
Tears are dripping from my eyes,
Pink and blue swirls around me,
I have found my true love.

When I heard the music-
I imagine the glistening flames of a fireplace in a cozy winter home,
I imagine Mary Poppins floating, though the sunset sky, with her detective-like briefcase,
I imagine Tom and Jerry wrecking their modern beautiful family home,
And glass shattering everywhere.

When i heard the music-
I could see a bright flash of lightning,
A grey cloudy sky covered the sun,
A bright flash of yellow lightning,
A red rabbit running to his beautiful brown house.

When i heard the music-
The music started playing,
The world went silent,
I heard clapping, cheering and laughing everywhere,
The soliders went wild.

When i heard the music-
The door was barricaded with blacky brown wood,
Halloween pumpkins everywhere,
The windows were prison shut,
The house was pitchy black.

When I heard the music-
bumble bees buzzed above my head,
Harry potter flew above Hogwarts on his majestic broom,
my favourite cartoon as child Tom and Jerry was on the television.

When I heard the music-
bagpipes played above the great mountains of Scotland,
The great flag of Scotland waved in the mist,
The film brave started playing in different galaxies,
I could see red, green, brown and blue.

When I heard the music-
Santa’s sleigh magically glider across winters eve,
Rudolph’s theme song belted loudly in the North Pole,
Presents lead calmly on the green and red rug,
I saw red, blue and black.

When I heard the music-
people got angry and mad at each other,
a person lay in a hospital bed dying,
heaven’s door open up in the mysterious clouds,
I saw red, blue and black.

When I heard the music-
There was loud panting,
100 rapid puppies climbing up the loud colossal Big Ben,
A hot pink clown car racing around big ben,
A jet with missiles and a plasma beam what shoots Big Ben,
With puppies tumbling down,

When i heard the music-
A legendary bagpiper in the distance,
I saw the steal epic armour of the vikings,
The wooden longboat sailing in the distance,
Being swept away by the -10 cold, cold water,
No longer to be seen fighting away in the battle,

When i heard the music-
A zooming bunny racing to the line,
A creeping tortoise with no chance to catch up,
The tired bunny stopped for a rest,
Now giving the tortoise to have a chance to catch up,
He raced like a bowling ball and finished in celebration,

When i heard the music-
A relaxing desert island with silence,
The waves swooshed, coconuts fell and sand swept,
A woman singing with a beautiful voice,
Screaming in the distance,

When I heard the music-
I thought of a woodpecker pecking,
there was a loud bang echoing,
you could see bright green trees.

When I heard the music-
I imagined beauty and the beast dancing,,
bagpipes playing making noises vibrating,
The bag pipers in a row watching,
I remembered a dancefloor brightly coloured.

When I heard the music-
I touched browny blacky colours swirling around me,
thinking about the Harry Potter intro,
Mary Poppins flying in the bright blue sky,
there was a darkness creeping in.

When I heard the music-
I dreamed of a lady singing in a red dress,
my mind changed and thought of a girl,
Who lived in an orphanage.

When I heard the music-
There was a swarm of buzzing bees on the bright flowers,
Deers rushing away petrified,
Fireworks bursting up high,
Waves washing up the sand.

When I heard the music-
Colourful kites flying up high in the midnight sky,
Stars shooting up in the darkness,
Children playing on the beach,
Trees swaying off their branches.

When I heard the music-
Snow falling down from the bright blue sky,
The orange sunset appearing on the horizon,
Pumpkins glowing in the blinding sunlight,
Icicles jammed on the poles.

When I heard the music-
Beats hitting the rhythm,
Icicles melting from the sun,
Birds zooming through the sky,
Ice creams melting slow.

When I heard the music-
I saw trick or treaters laughing down the lane,
a house’s halloween decorations blowing in the wind,
an owl flapping through the breeze hooting away,
pumpkins glowing in the moonlight illuminating the path.

When I heard the music-
I pictured bagpipers blowing and making wonderful tunes,
people smiling,laughing and having fun,
my teacher walking down the street with the biggest smile on her face,
a single bagpiper blowing the most beautiful tunes from the top of a hill so you can hear it at the bottom.

When I heard the music-
The Queen of Hearts was craving Alice’s head,
Screams and then an eerie silence,
The sound of a great white closing in,
I saw red, black, white and blue.

When I heard the music-
Meteors rained above mountain tops,
A beautiful lady getting married,
Scots taking over the world,
Clashes of silver sword,

When I heard the music-
Two love birds were captured in a forest,
Dumbledore rising to be reliant and trusting,
Harry Potter flying on his broom for the first time,
Blacks, greens and browns swirled around me.

When I heard the music-
Two people were in the park having a cup of tea,
A family sadly lost an important member,
I felt cool breeze brush against my face,
Two people holding buttercups and their chins are yellow.

When I heard the music-
Footprints spread over the floor,
Shattering noises came out of nowhere,
A cat chased a tiny mouse everywhere,
Out of a window a man tried to chase a deer far away.

When I heard the music-
I thought of a bagpipe,
Playing in the mountains not far away,
From the waterfalls gushing loads of water.

When I heard the music-
I dreamed of Hogwarts,
With people flying on brooms,
And the students playing their favourite music again and again.

When I heard the music-
Bees were buzzing from flower to flower
Collecting sweet pollen
Trees blowing in the warm wind,
Beehives swaying from side to side.

When I heard the music-
A man was blowing the the bagpipes
Near a massive volcano,
The ground rumbled, the white
And blue flag was swaying in the ferocious wind.

When I heard the music-
Ships were racing across the wavy rough ocean,
Bees buzzing around the beautiful apple tree,
A lion sprinted through the forest whilst the sun rose,
A deer racing through the forest.

When I heard the music-
Ducks were swimming in the pale blue canal,
The sun rising over the large busy city,
And me running in the long wavy grass.

When I heard the music-
There was a group of children having a snowball fight,
There was raindrops patting on the smooth road,
And the ripples of the ocean swishing away.

When I heard the music-
There were motorbikes zooming across the racetrack,
The noises of people clapping,
Children screaming and clapping.
