On Friday, year 5 took part in their first experiment linking to our topic ‘Properties and Changes of Materials.’

First of all, the children looked at and discussed the differences between solids, liquids and gases. Then our objective was to know that some materials will dissolve in liquid to form a solution, and then to describe how to recover a substance from a solution.

We investigated what happened to the different materials when they are mixed with cold water. The materials we used to investigate this were: sugar, salt, coffee, sand, bicarbonate soda, blue food colouring, oil and baking powder.

Take a look at our pictures from our science experiment and work below. An excellent afternoon year 5 – well done! 🙂
