Year 3 Mosaics
This half term in art we have been learning all about mosaics. The children studied how the Romans made mosaics before planning and designing their own. We think they look fantastic. Well done Year 3.

Last week we entered the Heywood Schools Gymnastics Competition. We took 3 teams, a Year 1/2, 3/4 and 5/6. Prior to the competition, the children had to learn a set floor routine and perform a vault suited to their age group. All the children did amazing and performed their routines Read more…
Today we explored how we change the direction of light using the reflection off a mirror. we also explored symmetry using mirror reflection. Lots of wows today as the children explored mirrors and reflection.
This morning we went to Heywood library. All the children are now members of the library and have taken out some books to read for pleasure in their own time. Last week KS2 were introduced to Ultimate Frisbee with a taster session from Sports Cool Bury. All the children really enjoyed their session and learning some new skills.

Today we had an extra PE session where we were shown the art of Frisbee throwing. Great fun.
What a busy day we have had designing and making our sling shot cars. The children have been busy measuring, gluing, sawing, designing body work and assembly today to create a car that is powered by an elastic band sling shot. Here are the finished cars. Well done year 3.
Year 3 celebrated the coronation of King Charles with a range of activities across the day. We used our ICT lesson on desktop publishing to create a party invite. We produced some pixel art work to along with creating some fact files about our new king.
This week we have been learning all about flowers and the function of each part. We dissected some lilies to identify parts such as the stigma, style, anther and filament.

This week we have been looking at data handling in maths, where we have been recording and interpreting data. What better way to learn about pictograms and bar charts than with smarties and skittles.

Today we celebrated world book day with a range of reading activities. The children really enjoyed our book tasting session along with a visit to the library with some quiet reading time. Today we brought our design technology unit to an end by making our final design. Throughout the unit we have looked at seasonal food, imported foods and healthy foods in the run up to our final design. The children all designed a seasonal healthy tart which they made today. Yummy.
