This week was also internet safety day. We had a visit from two our our school digital leaders who taught us about the importance of keeping safe online and what we should be looking out for and reporting.

This term we have been learning how to program Bee-Bots. We have been predicting and planning their routes. We have developed new terminology such as algorithms and debug. The children have really enjoyed working with the Bee-Bots.

This year in computing we have been developing understanding of the word technology, getting used to using a laptop and developing use of the mouse and keyboard. So far we have practised logging on using our username and password, created art work and typed our names.
Year 6 have been learning all about how we communicate and connect through the internet. In this lesson, we learnt how information is shared through a network using packets that include an IP address. Take a look at how we became a human network and communicated through packets.
This half term we are learning all about spreadsheets. Our first lesson was just becoming familiar with the programme Excel and learning about cells, fields and data. For this year’s Safer Internet Day, Year 6 produced and presented some Google slides surrounding the theme of ‘All fun and games? Exploring respect and relationships online.’ Everyone created informative and mature presentations- some pairs even gave us a quiz!
As part of their Computing topic looking at the history of computers, Year 6 spent the afternoon exploring ways of recording spoken words, music and sound effects. Next week we will further develop these skills and record our own Bletchley Park radio plays…I can’t wait to hear them!
