Today we started our new topic for this half term, eating seasonally.
The children began by thinking about what makes a healthy diet and how different foods can offer different nutrients. They completed a food pyramid to explore the different food groups such as protein, dairy and carbohydrates.
We then explored how not all foods in our diet (particularly fruit and vegetables) come from our country as we don’t have the climate to grow such foods. The children explored where different fruits and vegetables are grown around the world and explored just how far they have travelled to get to our plate.
The children then followed a simple recipe to make a japanese fruit skewer using fruits from around the world such as watermelon, banana and lychees.
